Benefits of Reflexology in pregnancy;

  1. Reduced morning sickness, all day sickness and vomiting which persists past month three.
  2. Helps relieve heartburn and indigestion, constipation and haemorrhoids (piles), low back pain, labour sciatica and symphysis pubis diastasis (SPD).
  3. Prepares the body for labour by balancing the body systems, especially the endocrine system which governs the labour process.
  4. The length of labour can be very much reduced by having regular reflexology treatment in the weeks prior to the expected date of delivery.
  5. During labour Reflexology can be used to boost energy levels and aid relaxation between contractions. It helps with pain control by stimulating the production of endorphins.
  6. Reflexology can be used either to stimulate regular contractions in labour.
  7. Babies born to mothers who has had reflexology are very calm, suckle better and are less prone to colic.
  8. Using reflexology after labour can help expel a retained placenta, can promote rapid healing of episiotomies, will encourage breast milk production and can help relieve urinary retention.

The National Maternity Hospital, Holles St., Dublin recommends reflexology during pregnancy.

Fertility Reflexology

Reflexology is a very gentle non invasive, relaxing therapy which is useful for both male and female to have. It helps balance the body, relieve stress and help you to relax and cope through this very emotional time.

Many women have found that reflexology has helped to regulate an irregular cycle through the balancing of the hormones, especially were infertility has been ‘unexplained’. Medics such as Dr. Edgar Mocanu, Consultant at the HARI Unit, Dublin, regard reflexology as a necessity before embarking on fertility investigations. He recommends that patients and their partners have 12 Reflexology sessions (one weekly) before beginning infertility investigations. It has been shown by Reflexologist’s that some clients who attend for reflexology have achieved a pregnancy during this time span. Others have taken slightly longer and for some it has been a time of relaxation, support and less stress before embarking on their fertility journey.
